Group Reservations of the EC Suite, MNL 226

Policies for Emeritus College Suite use (MNL 226)

Groups, other than those comprised of Emeritus College members, may use the central space in the EC Suite for events like receptions or meetings under the following conditions.

  • The EC suite is located on the 2nd floor of the Miller Nichols Library (226 MNL).
  • The event or group meeting must be related to academic or scholarly activities, for instance a group work session or a reception after a conference.
  • The group capacity for a reception is limited to about 25 or 30 people.
  • Availability is limited to hours that the Miller Nichols Library is open.
  • No room rental fee applies, but appropriate donations for the use of EC facilities will be accepted.
  • No rights for space use can be derived from this offer.
  • Availability of the space is subject to the needs of emeriti groups and events, and is decided on a first-come-first-served basis.
    Requests should be submitted as early as possible.
  • Arrangements must be made well in advance (at least 1 month) through Jakob Waterborg (, phone: 913-219-5414) and confirmation of a reservation is required.
  • Information required for any request for space use:
    • Identification of the group and/or event for which the EC space is requested;
    • Contact information (name, email, phone);
    • Type and size of the event (number of anticipated participants);
    • Anticipated catering or self-provided food and drink, if any;
    • Serving alcoholic beverages will require advance notice to obtain permission and may be subject to serving restrictions such as the presence of students;
    • Date with start and end times for the event itself, and times to start setup and end cleanup;
    • Other needs like audio/visual equipment.
    • A representative of the Emeritus College will be present at all times to provide access and assistance, as needed.
  • Setup and cleanup of any event are the responsibility of the organizers and not of the EC.
  • Tables and chairs in the Suite may be rearranged but the room must be returned to the same arrangement in which it was found.
  • It is not permitted to affix anything to the walls with nails, staples, tape or any other substance.
  • Because of fire-safety standards, use of candles or items with an open flame are prohibited.
  • The EC Suite, like all of UMKC, is a smoke-free environment.
  • The supplies and consumables in the EC suite fridge and storage cabinets cannot be used.
  • The computers in the EC suite may only be used by members of the Emeritus College.
  • All groups are financially responsible for any damage done to the room(s) and/or equipment.
  • The EC is not responsible for lost or stolen items left in the room prior to or following your event.
